MPA Online – Take Control of Your Learning

78

No matter your career stage or public sector experience, an online MPA degree provides a flexible way to achieve your professional goals. While its curriculum may be broad by design, an MPA degree program allows for individualization through specialization options.

Specific career paths can be particularly taxing, such as government leadership positions and NGO jobs overseas. You can lower the risks involved with such opportunities with an online MPA program.

Convenience

If your professional, family, and military responsibilities make attending class difficult, an online program may be an ideal solution. Classes can be taken whenever and wherever it suits you best and allow access to course materials as well as communication among classmates via e-mail, discussion forums, and virtual group conference rooms – including live interactive classes that you can participate in on either your computer or mobile device.

Online MPA programs can help shorten the time and costs required to earn your degree while saving money. Many schools offer reduced tuition rates for in-state students compared to out-of-state tuition costs; it is wise to compare tuition costs as well as miscellaneous fees when selecting an MPA program.

Most MPA programs provide graduates with a broad selection of courses designed to prepare them for various career options, including community relations, financial management, public policy administration, and non-profit management. Some programs even allow you to choose your area of concentration for further career advancement.

No matter where you stand in graduate studies, an online MPA can be invaluable in furthering your career. You’ll benefit from classes taught by nationally acclaimed professors with substantial practitioner experience who also instruct online; their services provide expert guidance as they lead you through the journey toward earning this advanced degree in public affairs.

Flexibility

Online students follow the same curriculum as on-campus MPA students but with greater flexibility to complete classes at their own pace. We offer two start options in mid-May: Summer Online Start Option or Hybrid Fall/Spring Start Options that let you mix on-campus and online courses according to your schedule.

With courses running every term of the year, you have the flexibility to tailor your graduate education around professional and personal obligations. Our student body features public administrators from local government, state/federal agencies, nonprofit organizations, and beyond; their varied experiences combined with seasoned researchers/practitioners/thinkers make for an engaging, collaborative learning experience.

Our online courses are delivered via our iLearn platform and include video lectures, virtual group meetings, discussion forums, and private chat rooms. With its flexible format, iLearn gives you the freedom to log on on your own schedule and connect with instructors and peers via e-mail, in-class live sessions, and virtual conference calls – no matter whether it be work commitments, military service obligations, or family obligations that require travel; one of the primary strengths of our program lies in its accessibility from anywhere around the globe.

Self-Directed Learning

Self-directed learning is a powerful tool that empowers people to take charge of their education. Learners can set their priorities, determine learning goals, and devise plans for attaining them – an excellent way of expanding beyond what’s taught in school while simultaneously fostering life-long learning. Individuals using this approach can identify knowledge gaps while critically appraising new information as they form study habits explicitly tailored to them, thus improving overall performance.

People tend to engage in self-directed learning when they’re passionate about a topic and motivated by a desire for mastery, yet finding time for this can be challenging when work or family commitments take precedence. One effective strategy to ensure you make the most of your e-learning experience is having clear objectives for learning that you track along the way.

Educators must recognize the value of self-directed learning and assist students in honing this skill set. Educators can begin by identifying critical, independent learning skills across grade levels, then teach and reinforce them explicitly in class or directly at home; additionally, they could provide students with resources for goal setting, planning, and time management.

Self-directed learning offers another advantage in that it fosters high-quality knowledge consumption. Learners can devote as much time as necessary to taking in information, improving concentration, and leading to improved performance. In addition, self-directed learners have greater freedom when selecting when and how they will study – enabling them to stay on task more efficiently.

Self-directed learning also encourages innovative and creative thinking; many of the world’s most outstanding scientists and inventors were self-taught. Leonardo da Vinci taught himself engineering, while the Wright brothers never graduated high school! For these reasons, self-directed learning should be included as an integral component of any holistic education plan, providing employees with valuable workplace training.

Interactivity

Online students access their classes at their convenience and communicate with faculty and classmates through various mediums such as email, discussion forums, virtual group conference rooms, and private chat sessions. Our curriculum allows flexible scheduling with course rotations that permit completion of the required 39-semester units of PPA coursework as well as any electives at their convenience.
